The rest is just a compilation of details.....
1. Where are you from?
I grew up on a farm in rural Delaware. My family raised angus beef cows in addition to other various farm animals. I grew up watching cows deliver their calfs- I suppose that started my journey towards midwifery...
2. How did you become a midwife?
I planned to enter college as a psychology major but had a change of mind at the last minute. On a whim I entered nursing school which was a 3 year program. I graduated in 2004 and worked as a labor and delivery nurse for the next 7 years. During that time I went back to school and earned my Masters degree in nursing; and for a short while I was a nursing instructor. However, my passion for patient care increased and in 2011 I entered the Midwifery/Women's Health NP program at Georgetown University. I graduated in May of 2013 and here we are..
3. How did you meet Adam?
As I said previously, I grew up in Delaware which is known as a beach tourist destination for East Coasters. I met Adam when he came to Delaware on a summer vacation. He was living just outside of DC in Alexandria VA at the time so we remained friends for over a year until I moved to DC for school and we started dating...the rest is history :)
4. What is the best part about being a midwife?
Being a midwife is the BEST job in the world! My absolute favorite part of my job is educating patients..which is how this blog came to be. I work with mainly underserved women and families. I love being able to pass along basic knowledge to people to better their lives. I also love watching women come back for return pregnancies and grow their families before my very eyes!
5. Where are you practicing now?
I am practicing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in a small town called Cambridge. Cambridge sits along the Choptank river and the main industries revolve around the local watermen (crabbing, fishing, oyster harvesting).
6. What are your hobbies?
I love being outdoors, especially on the water! I am a half tomboy and half girlie girl so I enjoy things like boating, fishing, and hunting just as much as shopping, wine nights, and trying new makeup. I love to cook and experiment with new recipes. My new thing this year was growing herbs and next year I am hoping to expand into a full garden.
